The accredited laboratory network’s portfolio of more than 200,000 analytical methods guarantees the evaluation of the safety, composition, authenticity, origin and purity of biological materials and products in the fields of environmental, pharmaceutical and food analysis, as well as consulting, animal health, molecular biology, agriculture, proficiency testing and innovative clinical diagnostics.
A clean and safe environment is a prerequisite for health and quality of life. Eurofins’ Environmental Testing Laboratories perform the testing of the quality of water, air, soil, waste and other products and of their impact on health and the environment.
The Group’s microplastics laboratories have been actively involved in a number of regional and international studies to measure the type and amount of microplastics in soil, surface water, seas and oceans. Experts of the Group have now undertaken a new transcontinental international research effort to measure airborne microplastics particles together.

the Plastic Dust Cloud project
In 2023, Eurofins formed the Peer Group, bringing together all microplastics laboratories in Bergen (Norway), Budapest (Hungary), Gijón (Spain), Sacramento (USA), and Melbourne (Australia). Each laboratory had already contributed to regional and international studies measuring microplastics in soil, surface water, seas, and oceans.
In 2024, they joined forces to launch the Plastic Dust Cloud Project, a global initiative to measure airborne microplastics. Sampling was conducted simultaneously across all locations, using the same methods and over the same duration. Analyses were then performed across all Eurofins microplastics laboratories to ensure consistent and reliable results.
